Novato , California

Area Guide

History

Novato is located within Marin County. Marin is part of the original 27 counties in the state of California. This land is native to the Miwok Indians. Their people inhabited the land for many thousands of years and a few of their descendants still inhibit the land. This land was claimed by Mexico and would later become part of the United States on February 2, 1848 via the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended the Mexican-American War that lasted for 2 years prior. The original town of Novato existed at Novato Creek (now South Novato Boulevard).
